I'm a student pursuing a doctoral degree in late medieval history. My main interests include but are not limited to Latin, Italian, cultural theory, educational curriculum, historiography, cognitive processes, language-theory, gender relations and THE WESTERN CANON (mwahaha); i am not particularly interesting, avant-garde or risque; My main hobbies include the exciting activities of cooking, baking, going to the gym, eating green apple-caramel lollipops, restaurant reviewing and acting as child-like and sassy as possible. I keep these entries from the years of my life - no matter how i feel about them today - available because i find it useful to revisit events i now interpret differently. My name is heather, i'm of Montreal and i was born in the nefarious, ominous year 1984.

I HEART Justin Trudeau

I listen to CJAD during my morning commute five days a week. They have been airing interviews with MPs about the current, uh, constitutional crisis or whatever you want to call it depending on where you stand.

To be fair, I vote NDP, so it is sort-of a given that i am happy about the attempt at a coalition. I don’t think i know enough to have thoughts on the Bloc involvement.

This morning the Hon. Justin Trudeau spoke with Andrew Carter. He speaks too quickly. He gets overly excited. He CARES. I LOVE listening to him talk and even though i know that his apparent lack of control would be a hindrance to leading the country, i am so happy there is an implicated politician with actual charisma in the House of Commons.

So, i emailed CJAD suggesting they try to get the Hon. Irwin Cotler to speak over the next few days. His track-record as Justice Minister is beyond reproach. I can only say good things about his public speaking at the Darfour Conference i attended last November. And, there are so few politicians who both work hard AND stand up for what they believe (i am thinking of his response to the UN’s genocide council when he walked out over their insistence that Canada had voted for something when he had not and their refusing to change the records).

I was listening to CJAD mostly because my Dad likes talk radio in the morning and he is driving. I have been slowly coming around. Now i am almost what you would call a fan.

We live in interesting times…

And, because my friends are oftentimes brilliant - as Zach said yesterday: “MISTER Harper appears to think we have a presidential system in Canada; Perhaps he would like to run against Mr. Obama in 2012?”

I am with you 100%. I have always been a Liberal supporter, and I am sorry I missed hearing Trudeau on the air this morning.

I used to feel the same way as you did about talk radio, but I have really started coming around the last year or so. I really liked 940News (as I have mentioned many a time my love for Joe Cannon) and I was sad to see it go. I like Andrew Carter, but I am not particularly fond of Tommy Schnurmacher. Kim Fraser is good, Kevin and Trudie are alright (depends on the topic) and Ric Peterson can be good sometimes.

My main issue with CJAD, which was unlike 940, is that they don’t really give people time to talk. A typical half hour breaks down like this: top of the hour, news, weather, traffic
10 past: blah blah from the announcer(s)
quarter after: traffic update + ads
20 after: more blah blah from announcer then maybe 3 comments from callers
25 after: more blah blah, an ad, and then back to the announcers as to what’s next on the show.
    Lather, rinse, repeat. Lame.

This political stuff is insane. I was never really all that interested until now.
