Canadian Monopoly Championship 2009
It only seems fitting that given Montreal’s prestigious “Boardwalk” slot on the World Monopoly board that we should be hosting the three day national championship. This morning on the drive-in to work CHOM was interviewing the judge of the tournament being held from May 28-30th at the Montreal Science Centre.
Apparently most of the players are realtors or bank employees who excel in dealing with risk and investment in real life too. The prize for the tournament is $15,000 and advancement to the international championship in Las Vegas in October.
I played Monopoly using the “real’ rules back in April with three friends and it was… exciting to say the least. The vying for a complete colour group was tense. The negotiating was loud and flamboyant. The game lasted only about two hours and i lost - but it was fun. Brought back memories of road trips up North with Veronica when i was a little kid - and when we put money under the free parking spot.

Hi,
I used to be an avid enthusiast in the Canadian Monopoly Championships, but had forgotted about it the past few years. I realize that qualifying for the championships has ended for this year, but I was wondering when the next championship qualifying rounds will begin? Thanks for the help,
- Mark
