I'm a student pursuing a doctoral degree in late medieval history. My main interests include but are not limited to Latin, Italian, cultural theory, educational curriculum, historiography, cognitive processes, language-theory, gender relations and THE WESTERN CANON (mwahaha); i am not particularly interesting, avant-garde or risque; My main hobbies include the exciting activities of cooking, baking, going to the gym, eating green apple-caramel lollipops, restaurant reviewing and acting as child-like and sassy as possible. I keep these entries from the years of my life - no matter how i feel about them today - available because i find it useful to revisit events i now interpret differently. My name is heather, i'm of Montreal and i was born in the nefarious, ominous year 1984.

About the Quotation
Taken from Baldasare Castiglione’s The Book of the Courtier, i have found this quotation particularly appropriate for my blogging style. I am trying to adopt a conversational tone and yet still convey something worth sharing. It helps that it’s from a Renaissance text.

Mastheads

There are currently three mastheads which rotate at a random occurrence. Taken with a Canon Powershot SD1000 8.0 megapixel camera, they were chosen for their topical nature. I hope to add a new masthead a month and retire them as they get older. The original pictures from which they were created along with their locations and a brief anecdote are found below.

Taken in November 2008 at the Atwater market while shopping for ground lamb with Z and D. Although i love the look of this mushroom display, i actually think mushrooms are one of the grossest things to eat. The texture is that of… well… fungus. The colours, however, are divine. I don’t know why, but this makes me think a little bit of Christmas.

Taken in January 2009 in the Blue Mountains National Park, this shot of the Three Sisters far surpasses the shots i had attempted a year earlier through thick fog. The sun was thick and bright and tourists crawled everywhere.

Taken in March 2009 from the top of Mount Sodom (or what we named Mount Sodom as we scampered up the rock slopes towards the pillar of salt that is supposed to be Lot’s wife) at sunset. The Dead Sea reflects both the colours of the setting sun and mountains in Jordan on the other side. I do not believe i have EVER seen anything more stunning and yet more melancholic.
