I'm a student pursuing a doctoral degree in late medieval history. My main interests include but are not limited to Latin, Italian, cultural theory, educational curriculum, historiography, cognitive processes, language-theory, gender relations and THE WESTERN CANON (mwahaha); i am not particularly interesting, avant-garde or risque; My main hobbies include the exciting activities of cooking, baking, going to the gym, eating green apple-caramel lollipops, restaurant reviewing and acting as child-like and sassy as possible. I keep these entries from the years of my life - no matter how i feel about them today - available because i find it useful to revisit events i now interpret differently. My name is heather, i'm of Montreal and i was born in the nefarious, ominous year 1984.

I realized last week at some point that the slow cooker was making a liar out of me… i used to avoid eating meat at home, but stews and soups are “oh so yummy.” Furthermore, i had an excuse to go to my favourite, but not often enough visited, grocery store - Punjab’s - for [...]
Right now my oven isn’t working. On the long list of things i continue to avoid, high up there is telling my landlord about the broken convection oven and the doorknob that keeps falling off. I feel stupid making a special trip to list things wrong with the apartment. However, i was given my Nana’s [...]
Have been looking for a balanced salad meal that doesn’t involve leafy greens (not because i don’t like them, just because i wanted a change). I introduce to you a low carb, high protein salad: a 1.25 cup serving (and that’s a pretty generous portion) has 322 calories from 40g carb, 9g fat and 23g [...]
This week-end, i spent quite a bit of time (and money) picking up food items for my teeny little kitchen. On the menu for the week is chicken soup, a black bean, corn, pineapple and shrimp salad (recipe forthcoming), lentil loaf and another inauguration of last week’s granola bars. Friday i took the free Collegetown [...]
My little kitchen in Baltimore has a 3/4 size fridge, a hot plate and a convection oven. I wish i could say that i have been adventurous thus far, but that would be a lie. However, for the commencement of classes (and to encourage my current healthy trend), i tested the oven out with this [...]
Although i have been touring Perugia and Umbria by day, my evenings before this week-end had been devoted mostly to chatting with friends back home, watching streamed television and reading. After Friday’s successful trip to the Umbria Jazz box office, i worked up the courage to correct that and have been enjoying more of Perugia’s [...]
I don’t know why but i keep forgetting about the Sainte Elisabeth. Be this because it’s tucked away on an adorable sidestreet or because each of my visits have been so relaxing and hassle-free, i do not know. However, i have been both in summer and in winter and enjoyed myself immensely every time.
As with [...]
When i had my wisdom teeth removed back in 2005, i spent a week-end teaching myself how to drive a stick-shift, drinking milkshakes, eating ice cream and being introduced to the Gilmore Girls. It was my lovely friend Lisa who lent me her boxed sets and pushed me into a love affair that continues to [...]
I asked in a recent facebook status update is asked “what to do with 3 lbs of leftover lamb?” - i tried a recipe from the good old Joy of Cooking and it came out great and cost almost nothing as i already had the lamb on hand. You can use leftover beef or pork [...]
