I'm a student pursuing a doctoral degree in late medieval history. My main interests include but are not limited to Latin, Italian, cultural theory, educational curriculum, historiography, cognitive processes, language-theory, gender relations and THE WESTERN CANON (mwahaha); i am not particularly interesting, avant-garde or risque; My main hobbies include the exciting activities of cooking, baking, going to the gym, eating green apple-caramel lollipops, restaurant reviewing and acting as child-like and sassy as possible. I keep these entries from the years of my life - no matter how i feel about them today - available because i find it useful to revisit events i now interpret differently. My name is heather, i'm of Montreal and i was born in the nefarious, ominous year 1984.

Aernout van der Neer’s Nightscapes

Lost hard-drives also mean lost electronic address books. As i rummaged through my travel journals looking for the means to send Christmas cards, i found notes i jotted down while in Amsterdam in May 2007 with the infamous Auntie Lorraine.
The Rijksmuseum was under renovation and most of its collection in storage. I was captivated by [...]

Penguin Books in the UK has embarked upon a foray into digital fiction. The sixth [...]

It may not be Nero… but i learnt a lot about anti-heros yesterday when i attended a lecture my advisor was giving for the Spring Renaissance Program at U of T.
Yesterday i had picked up an extra three hour lunch shift at work. It went well, but i REALLY could have used the [...]

One Sentence

It’s Sunday again, so i am reviewing art online. This week i am moved into the realm of anonymous scrawling. One Sentence reminds me of those great graffiti in bathroom stalls - the ones that are witty and actually make you laugh. I haven’t had this happen more than once or twice in my life [...]

Peter Callesen: Paper-Artist

When i was a little kid, i used to spend an inordinate amount of time weaving paper together to form rug-like designs. I remember doing this particularly for holiday cards at Sunday school and even taking out a book from the McCaig library in order to hone my skills. I never managed to create anything [...]

Mark Jenkins: Street Installations

Image via Wikipedia

Trying out StumbleUpon, i encountered a lovely set of Street Installations by Mark Jenkins. Whimsical, witty and yet stunning i was mesmerized. They reminded me that i need to spend the next couple of months in Toronto going to the theatre, arts shows and other cultural events i don’t normally manage to find [...]

WeFeelFine.Org

Earlier this week, i got a referral from We Feel Fine. I had never before heard of them and promptly put aside my paper writing to go check it out.
We Feel Fine is a truly beautiful piece of webart - the mathematics behind which boggles my mind. Interactive, this work can be used to view [...]
