I'm a student pursuing a doctoral degree in late medieval history. My main interests include but are not limited to Latin, Italian, cultural theory, educational curriculum, historiography, cognitive processes, language-theory, gender relations and THE WESTERN CANON (mwahaha); i am not particularly interesting, avant-garde or risque; My main hobbies include the exciting activities of cooking, baking, going to the gym, eating green apple-caramel lollipops, restaurant reviewing and acting as child-like and sassy as possible. I keep these entries from the years of my life - no matter how i feel about them today - available because i find it useful to revisit events i now interpret differently. My name is heather, i'm of Montreal and i was born in the nefarious, ominous year 1984.

Inflated Expectations: Sherlock Holmes (A film review)

I’ve come to the conclusion that if Robert Downey Jr. is in a movie i am going to end up watching it for he never seems to get himself cast into crap. It’s nice. Perhaps it’s just dumb luck, but i would like to think there are, out there, movie stars and starlets who actually [...]

Where the Wild Things Are: Movie Review

Last week it rained and was unseasonably cold for four consecutive days. But the last, Saturday, all that i wanted to do was hide indoors under a blanket. However, instead, i went to the movies down by the Harbour - a theatre that has a full bar inside - very nice! This was after a [...]

Movie Review: Quantum Solace

I love action movies and the newest James Bond does the genre justice. In keeping with the precedent set in Casino Royale, the movie opens with a fantastic chase and then dives into an even better chase scene on foot through the streets of Siena. Ok… as i think about it, maybe Quantum Solace is [...]

Burn After Reading: Movie Review

I hadn’t been to a movie on opening night in ages and, i must say, the theatre was packed. Burn After Reading provided exactly what i had hoped for in a birthday movie - it was funny; it made me uncomfortable at times; it was social commentary in a completely palatable form.
While the range of [...]

Blindness: Movie Trailer Review

On September 19, Alliance Films is releasing a movie starring Julianne Moore entitled Blindness. I’m sort of undecided as to whether or not i will harass someone to go see it with me. The plot, there is a plague and society crumbles, sounds strangely reminiscient of Children of Men, which though i liked it, i [...]

The Prodigal Daughter

My parents are forever telling both myself and anyone willing to listen how “difficult” i am to get along with. There is some truth to this. I have not been at home a week and i am already tired of doing dishes for three people, cooking for more than one person, running around to get [...]

The Strangers: May 30th

Bryan Bertino’s newest screenplay, The Strangers, will be released in Canada on May 30th. The extent to which the trailer reminded me of Vacancy, which i saw last summer at the drive-in, was actually so substantial that I ended up doing an IMDB look-up. I’m usually opposed to writers directing their own work as is [...]

Iron Man: Movie Review

I love action movies - my excitement over the impending release of the new Indiana Jones is already starting to irritate those few people who talk to me semi-regularly. Iron Man had been highly recommended by a large swatch of the population and now i see why.
It starts with a big boom and some great [...]

Lars and the Real Girl

Image via Wikipedia

Having come highly recommended to me by more than one person, i sat down last night around 2am to watch Lars and the Real Girl genuinely worried that my laughing might wake my landlords whose baby has been sick recently.
Alas, i was disappointed. Touching and well-put-together, the movie was very good. There were [...]

Where in the World is Osama bin Laden?

On May 16th, Morgan Spurlock will be releasing a new movie. You might remember him from such past entertaining documentaries as SuperSize Me. I watched the trailer for Where in the World is Osama bin Laden? on the Alliance website earlier this week and am intrigued. Even with an entourage consisting of a film crew [...]
