I'm a student pursuing a doctoral degree in late medieval history. My main interests include but are not limited to Latin, Italian, cultural theory, educational curriculum, historiography, cognitive processes, language-theory, gender relations and THE WESTERN CANON (mwahaha); i am not particularly interesting, avant-garde or risque; My main hobbies include the exciting activities of cooking, baking, going to the gym, eating green apple-caramel lollipops, restaurant reviewing and acting as child-like and sassy as possible. I keep these entries from the years of my life - no matter how i feel about them today - available because i find it useful to revisit events i now interpret differently. My name is heather, i'm of Montreal and i was born in the nefarious, ominous year 1984.

A Favourite Montreal Pub: The Sainte Elisabeth

I don’t know why but i keep forgetting about the Sainte Elisabeth. Be this because it’s tucked away on an adorable sidestreet or because each of my visits have been so relaxing and hassle-free, i do not know. However, i have been both in summer and in winter and enjoyed myself immensely every time.
As with [...]

Toi, Moi et Cafe: Restaurant Review

Stopped into the Toi, Moi et Cafe at 244 Laurier in Outremont on a Friday night because we were early for our dinner reservations. I had heard they have the best coffee in town. Unfortunately, i am not a coffee drinker and it actually HURT that i couldn’t order an “Honore de Balzac” brew.
The lights [...]

Restaurant Reviewing Mania

The recent discovery of Yelp has fueled my already over-enthusiastic devotion to foodie chronicles. There is a reason that my religious belief on facebook is “Bacchanalianism.”
This week-end was a good one even IF i developed a shin splint and was unable to get in any quality time with the treadmill. After moping around all Saturday [...]

Restaurant Review: Reservoir’s Breakfast

Walking through the downtown core and into the Plateau on Sunday, we were half-convinced some world-important event had occured that kept everyone chained to the TVs inside their houses. We were wrong, and the crowd in The Reservoir at noon when we arrived proved it. However, a table for two was not hard to come [...]

Queen Sushi: Restaurant Review

Go there… Go there now…
On Queen Mary Rd. just east of the Snowdon metro station is perhaps the best sushi place EVER. Okay, there may be better SOMEWHERE, but i have been trying really hard to find it (using guidebooks in other cities and friends’ recommendations) to no avail.
The 7 Dragon specialty roll is perhaps [...]

Greg’s Ice Cream: Yummy!

After our horrible brunch on Saturday morning, Veronica and i decided to venture out to BMV books (no, i did not buy anything, though i came VERY close to picking up more material for my novel, Hemingway’s Short Stories and other great finds that i have no time to read) and then to Greg’s Ice [...]

Kilgour’s Brunch: TBA

TBA is not the traditional “to be appointed” that Concordians are used to. TBA is my new term for those things which are “to be avoided.”
Veronica and i went for Kilgour’s, on Bloor just between Spadina and Brunswick, “Brunch until 4pm” Saturday morning. Oh lord.
Our waitress didn’t bring us water. It took an hour [...]
